Free at Last. Free at Last. Thank God Almighty!

Last week at school, we had the privilege of reading a portion of Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. It was interesting to hear the response of the students who previously attended public school. They commented on how they had no idea that Dr. King fought for unity of ALL, and they said they wish they would’ve had this presented to them because they discovered the speech wasn’t as much about race as it was about, “one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.” -Dr. King.

Our world has taken a beautiful speech about uniting mankind for God’s glory, and instead use it to create division between races. Dr. King peacefully protested to unite mankind.

Bobby preached on Matthew 5:8 this morning, “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God.” He expanded on the ‘purity of heart’ meaning keeping our minds undivided. We cannot serve both the world and God. Martin Luther King Jr. faithfully stayed focus, amidst all the injustices, on the Glory of the Lord. Dr. King called all races and religions to unite not for selfish gain but to further God’s Kingdom… so that we may all be Free!

“And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, ‘Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!’” -Dr. King

Living in a broken world, we all face injustices everyday, but for God’s Kingdom and God’s Glory and for the unity of mankind for our Good, I pray we are able to see the devil’s schemes of division for what they are and unite because all of our eyes have a single focus, looking together at our Perfect Father. Amen.
