Needless Upset.

When they arrived at Capernaum, the tax men came to Peter and asked, “Does your teacher pay taxes?”

Peter said, “Of course.”

But as soon as they were in the house, Jesus confronted him. “Simon, what do you think? When a king levies taxes, who pays—his children or his subjects?”

He answered, “His subjects.”

Jesus said, “Then the children get off free, right? But so we don’t upset them needlessly, go down to the lake, cast a hook, and pull in the first fish that bites. Open its mouth and you’ll find a coin. Take it and give it to the tax men. It will be enough for both of us.” Matthew‬ ‭17:24-27‬ (msg)

God’s provision is so beautifully complete.

When I read this story, I find myself wondering how many situations or issues pass into and through my life each day that God is saying, “Don’t worry about it. I will make provision and set it right. There is no sense in needlessly upsetting anyone.”

Can you even imagine if we took this truth into our families and communities and societies? What a beautiful change we would have!!! A little bit of Jesus changes all sorts of lives!

Lord I pray that we embrace Life, real and eternal Life, by trusting Your Provision and Way, by holding our tongues, and by letting You reign victorious in each one of us. Amen.
