It Boils Down to Trust.

John 8:25-26 They said to him, “Just who are you anyway?”

Jesus said, “What I’ve said from the start. I have so many things to say that concern you, judgements to make that affect you, but if you don’t accept the trustworthiness of the One who commanded my words and acts, none of it matters. That is who you are questioning – not me but the One who sent me.

It really boils down to trust doesn’t it? Do we trust God? Adam and Eve did not trust God. They chose death over trusting God. He told them that was the consequence. When we choose against God, we are always choosing the lesser. But an amazing part to this story is that we are all given a choice – but it is the opposite. Adam and Eve were born/created into life and chose death; we are born into death and have the ability to choose Life… and Life abundant!

But we will never experience Life abundant until we trust God… and the ONLY way we will ever trust Him is if we get to know Him… intimately. And the ONLY way we get to know anyone intimately is by spending time with them.

So here is my challenge: We know the Fruits of the Holy Spirit – the characteristics of God: Goodness, Kindness, Gentleness, Self-Control, Peace, Love, Joy, Patience, Faithfulness. Now, every time we hear something about God that doesn’t align with who He is, ask Him to reveal His Glory. Like a child, know if something is Good, it will be Good. As adults we want to come up with some philosophy or explanation to justify God’s character when we don’t understand… but perhaps instead of philosophizing, we humble ourselves and say, ‘Maybe I don’t understand. Lord reveal Yourself to me.’ My word of caution: don’t go to the internet for answers, or any other person; go to God. Get to know Him. He may put someone in your life to guide you, but go to Him. How He communicates with each of us will vary so much, but I will stake my life on His Goodness… and I know He is faithful to those who seek Him. He wants to reveal Himself, His Goodness and Love, to His children.

Lord, help us to know you better, so we trust you more fully, and surrender more completely. Amen.
