Even the Wind and the Waves…

As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. The he asked them, “Where is your faith?”

The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!”

Luke 8:23-25

I know satan is always trying to steal this truth from our hearts so we won’t believe (Luke 8:12), but if Jesus is in our life, in our boat, we are free! Free from fear and worry. There is nothing that can destroy us… He has authority over it all.

C-Bear asked me last night if God is so powerful, why is His Way the narrow way and satan’s the wide path? It’s a good question with a very real answer…  because we don’t obey what is Good… We put up no resistance to our sinful nature and let self run the show. Is it easier to stand firm in a storm or just let the wind take you where it wants? Sin doesn’t have any power over us unless we let it. Jesus offers to be our anchor so the storm can’t move us. We are all still hung up on the same trick satan played on Eve… a fear of missing out… that God is withholding something… or we just need to take care of a few things first, then we can trust. But Jesus is so forthright with us, telling us the thief’s way is empty and ‘leads to destruction’ (John 10:10).

After all Jesus has done, the disciples are still ‘amazed’… I can relate. He has worked miracles in my life… the biggest one, bringing Life to a sinner. He is faithful… ‘Even the wind and the waves obey Him.’
