Better than ‘Fine’.

John 8:23-24 (MSG)Jesus said, “You’re tied down to the mundane; I’m in touch with what is beyond your horizons. You live in terms of what you see and touch. I’m living on other terms. I told you that you were missing God in all this. You’re at a dead end. If you won’t believe I am who I say I am, you’re at the dead end of sins. You’re missing God in your lives.”

My life before I met Jesus had hit a ‘dead end’. My “fine” was the best I knew… now ‘fine’ is at the bottom of the meter with Jesus revealing more Glory and Wonder that I could’ve ever imagined pre-Jesus. This does not equate to happiness but to Glory and Wonder.

Charli asked me today if I enjoyed a particular event and my reply was, “it was fine.” In this moment, for anyone who has a daughter or is around kids much you will most likely know what I’m about to refer to, she gave me a look, staring me down in hopes of figuring me out. She continued to pry as to why I didn’t think it was an exceptional or at least better than ‘fine’ event… even buttering up the setting – trying to help me see that I should’ve thought it was a better event than ‘fine’. I listened and knew in my heart why the event was ‘fine’ – and it had nothing to do with the tangible.

And just like in the physical world -when you turn out the lights, there is no color. And when I turn my eyes from Jesus and spend my words and thoughts toiling about the ‘mundane’… the best I can say about it is ‘fine’. It lacks what makes life worth living… Our Creator. Our Savior. Light. Life. Him. It is one thing to worship and proclaim and venture into the Creator of the Universe and it’s an entirely different thing to limit our attention to the finite.

Ever since I started pursuing Jesus, He has continued to take me further up and further in. Revealing more of His Glory and more of who He is. Darkness may fill the earth, but I see light. John 8:12 “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.”

May we all live in the Light and be His.

Amen.
