First Week & Homeschool Friday.

We are rounding out the first week of school, and it seems to have went pretty well. I truly love teaching these guys. I also am enjoying the excitement and desire around learning music! We will be doing music on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If your child has the instrument they want to play, please have them bring it in with them. (Also let me know, so I don’t have to haul in extra instruments.)

I must say, I do enjoy the extra space. I thought I was indifferent – and I truly would use whatever God provided – but it is so far, very awesome to be in the church.

On to Homeschool Friday. I will not be posting weekly updates for homeschool Friday but will outline here what is to be done every Friday. Every Friday will fall on a multiple of five. Tomorrow is Day 5. Next Friday day 10…. And so on.

Start with the Big Genesis Curriculum (GC) Book:

  1. Read Bible and Bible Verse.
  2. Write Bible verse. 3rd grade and up in cursive. Most should have it memorized. Practice signing as much as possible. This week there was no Spanish Bible verse; we were reviewing the Spanish alphabet instead. The Spanish Bible verse will start next week and will need to be written as well (cursive or printing for grades 3+).
  3. Spanish Alphabet Video Here
  4. Spelling : Study the words from days 1-4 (listed on day 5 in the GC book). Then have parent say words and student writes them down. 3rd graders are not expected to know all of them. I had them pick 3 each day but they should do their best. 4th should be very close. 5th and up should know them. If you get one wrong practice signing and quizzing until you get them! For 1st and 2nd grade spelling, pick 5 words and have them write each one 3 times and practice signing. (Their spelling words from the week are in their notebooks.)
  5. Vocabulary: Write a short story using the new vocab words from the week. They are all listed with definitions on day 5 in the GC book. 1st and 2nd grade try to use one vocab word in a sentence. (Write the sentence)
  6. Read Science and Social Studies together.
  7. Discussion and Writing. Follow the instructions. Grades 1 & 2 – do your language arts book for that day.
  8. Put GC book away.
  9. Grades 5+ are now doing a page from their reader workbook each day. They just started today.
  10. Math: Complete the current day. No math facts/columns this week, but we will also start those next week and each grade will have to complete according to their level.
  11. Reading: Read for 30 minutes. Please listen to your child read at some point during this time so you know where they are at and what they need to work on as well.

Call or email me if you have any questions. I hope you enjoy this time learning together.

I pray everyone has a blessed weekend and remember: There is only one thing worth being concerned about, Mary has discovered it and it will not be taken from her! (Luke 10:42) Focus your hearts on Who is good. The rest will follow. Godspeed.
