New Wine

Mark 2:22 “And no one puts new wine into old wine skins. For the wine would burst the wine skins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wine skins.”

When we say “Yes” to God and welcome Jesus into our hearts and the Holy Spirit into our entire being – we become new. Our old ways will no longer do. We can’t pour our new life into our old wine skin; they no longer fit.

This is not by force or pompous striving. Something far greater is at work. A light begins to glow deep within ourselves. It’s not sharp or hard – but soft and yet so strong, unwavering and uncompromising – resolute in it’s purpose to cast out the darkness.

As the light shines, demons and monsters are revealed lurking in all the corners, but the light will not cower – and the evil is no match for the light. But what do we give more power to? The shameful, blundering demons or the uncompromising light? They can’t live together. We become painfully aware of the darkness that is there – but take heed and have hope – that light has overcome the world. (John 16:33) — The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still. (Exodus 14:14)  When the dark spirits tempt, coax, and then scream in a last ditch hope to sway you — stay firm in the light – He will fight and He will win.

Mark 1:23-27 Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit began shouting, “Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!”

Jesus cuts him short. “Be quiet! Come out of the man, “ he ordered. At that, the evil spirit screamed, threw the man into a convulsion, and then came out of him.   Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. “What sort of new teaching is this?” they asked excitedly. “It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!”

The light wins. He will cast out the demons if we will let Him. He will fight if we will stop running. That light will grow, and we will become new wine to be poured out for others, and likewise our wineskins will also take on a new glow… a new purpose.

In the presence of the One True Light, no darkness can stand. Praise God.
