If we are being honest with ourselves, we are all seeking to be satisfied in this life; whether it’s through a job, family, food, drugs, friends, things, God… there is an emptiness that needs to be filled and we strive to satisfy our longing.

Proverbs 27:20 Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied. 

If we can’t see God’s love for us, at least we can be thankful for His honesty and truth. He shoots straight and warns/tells us that we will come up empty every time we chase our human desires. There is nothing there. It’s like opening an empty box on your birthday… It is empty. 

For some, this truth is depressing… But it can also be freeing if we keep listening to what God has to say. He goes onto tell us that while this world cannot satisfy our longings, He can and will… John 4:13 Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst – not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.”

He offers to quench our thirst and satisfy our longings… and it’s free. If we believe this, our lives will never look the same. Lord, teach us to live our lives fully Yours. Amen.
