Rest.
And to whom did He swear [an oath] that they would not enter His rest, but to those who disobeyed [those who would not listen to His word]? So we see that they were not able to enter [into His rest—the promised land] because of unbelief and an unwillingness to trust in God. [Num 14:1-35] -Hebrews 3:18-19 AMP
“If we were right with God, we could see the earth vanish and never heave a sigh; God, of whom it was but a shimmering revelation, would still be ours!” -George MacDonald
I am convinced that He is our rest, our Life, and all Purpose… and because He is an all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect Love, we are asked to trust His ways above our ways and thinking. But how can we trust Him if we don’t know Him personally? He never asked us to do that. He asks us to know Him, and through knowing Him we will taste and see that the Lord is Good. Then we are asked to let go because we know His Goodness far surpasses our meager thoughts. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” In our willingness to trust, to let go, we will find our rest in our Surety.
“Despite our ignorance and unbelief, if we have a burning desire that longs for Him above everything else, a desire that is fostered by the Word, we may count on Him to make Himself known to us.”-Andrew Murray
