The Great Softening.

“Take care, brothers and sisters, that there not be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to trust and rely on the Lord, a heart] that turns away from the living God. But continually encourage one another every day, as long as it is called “Today” [and there is an opportunity], so that none of you will be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [its cleverness, delusive glamour, and sophistication]. For we [believers] have become partakers of Christ [sharing in all that the Messiah has for us], if only we hold firm our newborn confidence [which originally led us to Him] until the end, while it is said, “Today [while there is still opportunity] if you hear His voice, Do not harden your heart… -Hebrews‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬-‭15‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The hardened heart of unbelief, feeling the need to be in control at all times, making God smaller and smaller with every breath. The layers of this onion continue to be peeled back as I learn to recognize sin, the depth of its cleverness, delusive glamour, and sophistication. We are to trust and rely on God, not the systems of this world, and when we choose trusting the world instead of Him, our hearts harden. Why? Because something in us knows that we are walking on a false floor, and we are tense because it could give way at any moment. But those who put their trust in the LORD, the One who never changes, Bigger than ALL things with a Love more pure than words can describe, has Surety – a softness that can only come from walking with Him. He has come to soften our hearts and give us rest. He wants more and better for us than we could ever even imagine. Lord, soften us into You. You are our Surety. Amen.

The earth will wear out, but He never will.
