Do What is Good. Don’t Settle.
Be obedient, always ready to do what is good. Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But— When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone. -Titus 3:1, 3-8 NLT
The more we get to know God, the more we trust His Goodness, and the more we allow His Spirit to displace our old Spirit so that we may walk in ‘Newness of Life’.
When we find confusion in our hearts about asking for God’s guidance because we fear a lesser result, I am convinced it is at this point we need to get to know God a little better. The truth is, the better we know Him, the more sure we are that He is filled with Goodness and Love and wants better for us than we could ever possibly imagine. We see that it is our own understandings and thoughts that are leading us amuck – not His. I am confident that when we know God, the Good will follow because we begin to see that less of our petty and more of His Righteousness is always a victory… beneficial for everyone and we see self for what it is while simultaneously seeing God for who He is… Perfect, Sovereign Love… and we allow God to reign victor of our hearts. We no longer want to settle for less than Him. So we fight to do what is Good in this broken, upside down world – we fight – we don’t settle.
