Sweet Goodness.
“He who believes in a God not altogether unselfish and good, a God who does not do all he can for his creature, belongs to the same class of humankind who makes sticks or stones or other idols into deities to be worshiped. His is not the God who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and the fountains of water – not the God revealed in Christ. If one sees in God any darkness at all, and especially if one defends that darkness, attempting to justify it with some low, manufactured theology, I cannot but think his blindness must have followed his ignoring of the words of the Lord. Surely, if he had been strenuously obeying Jesus, he would before now have received that truth that God is light, and in him is no darkness – a truth which cannot be acknowledged by calling the darkness attributed to him light, and the candle of the Lord in the soul of man darkness. It is one thing to believe that God can do nothing wrong; quite another to call whatever presumption one may attribute to him right.
“The whole secret progress is doing the thing we know. There is no other way of progress in the spiritual life, no other way of progress in the understanding of that life. Only as we do, can we know.” – George MacDonald.
It’s the “little” choices we make every day that matter most. Our Life is not about works, but about being His… to do what we know to be Good and Right – not comparing and judging others, but simply for each one of us to individually do what He asks – NOT what we think He is asking, but a living relationship with Him that takes shape as we do what He asks.
“None but he who does right can think right. You cannot know Christ until you do as he does, as he tells you to do. Neither can you tell others of Him, until you know him as he means himself to be known, that is, as he is.” -George MacDonald.
We have a God of pure Light and Goodness… Who Loves us and wants to reveal Himself to us! This is Good News! Will we call Him Lord and Master? Not in words only but in our Lives?
“The Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, in readiness for God from day one. Everything was created through him; nothing—not one thing!— came into being without him. What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out. There once was a man, his name John, sent by God to point out the way to the Life-Light. He came to show everyone where to look, who to believe in. John was not himself the Light; he was there to show the way to the Light. The Life-Light was the real thing: Every person entering Life he brings into Light. He was in the world, the world was there through him, and yet the world didn’t even notice. He came to his own people, but they didn’t want him. But whoever did want him, who believed he was who he claimed and would do what he said, He made to be their true selves, their child-of-God selves. These are the God-begotten, not blood-begotten, not flesh-begotten, not sex-begotten. The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” -John 1:1-14 (msg)
PS. The pic is from Bobby rescuing my ill-thrown disc-golf disc this spring. I didn’t ask him to or expect him to – he just did it. I thought it was a really sweet thing to do.
