Perspective and Opinion.
“Are you listening to me? Really listening? How can I account for this generation? The people have been like spoiled children whining to their parents, ‘We wanted to skip rope, and you were always too tired; we wanted to talk, but you were always too busy.’ John came fasting and they called him crazy. I came feasting and they called me a boozer, a friend of the misfits. Opinion polls don’t count for much, do they? The proof of the pudding is in the eating.” (Matthew 11:15-19 msg)
Perspective is an interesting little variable on this planet we call earth. I truly believe that in the Garden of Eden, man one with God, human perspective was perfect, unifying instead of dividing. However, no longer rooted in Truth, our perspectives become a whole lot less… less what? Lesser in every way. Just like in the above scripture, without the Holy Spirit, we get it all wrong, twisted, and bent. Opinion polls don’t count for much…
It is eye-opening and mind-boggling how much time we spend discussing and contemplating half-truths, trying to ‘figure it out’. Praise Jesus for flipping the script and making it less about our perspective:
Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer: “Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. You’ve concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people. Yes, Father, that’s the way you like to work.” (Matthew 11:25-26 msg)
Maybe we don’t have to know everything or have a thought or opinion about everything. Maybe, just maybe, those opinions and perspectives aren’t as accurate as we think, and maybe! they don’t really matter anyway. Jesus has come so that we may be filled with Truth again through the power of His Spirit – not for us to carry this Truth around like knowledge we own, but instead, we become a fountain in which He can pour through us… He will carry our burdens and restore our perspective… He is the truth, and as long as we keep company with Him, He will teach us to live freely and lightly!
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” -(Matthew 11:28-30 msg)
It’s a sweet day to be His. Amen.
