Take the Promise.
Hebrews 11:33 Through acts of faith, they … took the promises for themselves.
What does sharing faith look like? A very powerful reality was impressed upon my heart this morning, and I can now tell you one thing with absolute certainty that sharing faith is not bringing someone with you on your faith journey. As much as it may seem like a good idea, as much as I have tried – it is not what is best, nor is it possible. We must each take that promise ourselves. There is something incredibly peaceful and freeing about this truth when it settles into my bones. That I may trust so fully in the sovereign love of our Father that I take the promises for myself and abide in Him because I know who my God is and that His Love for ALL His children is infinite.
Earlier in this same chapter in Hebrews, scripture states that Noah’s faith saved his family. At first glance, this would seem contradictory to the above thought, but I am beginning to see more clearly. A heart surrendered to God pours out a Love that is not of this world – a love that is present, a love that truly heals, a love that cannot be imitated. As we take hold of the promises, of all that God has promised us, we let go of this world – because He has got this and we are His. A faith lived out will no doubt impact those around us, without question. We can’t piggy-back on anyone’s faith, but when we take the promise for ourselves and allow God to live freely within us, Life is born and Life multiplies.
This isn’t complete revelation to me. I have posted about this before. I love John 15:5. Abide in me. Apart from me you can produce no fruit. But! Today, for whatever reason – Praise God! – it made it past my head and stuck deeper in my soul. Quite honestly, I don’t have the right words to describe what I’m fully trying to describe, but His peace is written all over it and I know with everything I can that I am His and He is Good.
