Keep It Simple and Stay Present.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 (msg) …,so don’t complicate your lives unnecessarily. Keep it simple – in marriage, grief, joy, whatever. Even in ordinary things – your daily routine or shopping, and so on. Deal as sparingly as possible with the things the world thrusts on you. This world as you see it is fading away.
Can I get an Amen?! Verse 31 of the NLT translation says: Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.
I love being reminded of this. I need to be reminded of this. As humans, we do not naturally keep things simple. Our fallen nature breeds confusion, discontentment, chaos, worldly knowledge and power. His word always points me back Home. This world is fading away; He is not. Hold on to what will last! Here are just a few more verses that soothed my soul today:
1 Corinthians 8:7 (msg) But knowing isn’t everything. If it becomes everything, some people end up as know-it-alls who treat others as know-nothings. Real knowledge isn’t that insensitive.
With all the political angst and division there has been a huge push to be able to counter arguments on both sides. This verse pointed me back to where ‘True’ knowledge comes from and the simplicity in knowing and trusting He who is Truth. He’s got this.
And last but not least:
1 Corinthians 10:10 (msg) We must be careful not to stir up discontent; discontent destroyed them.
I can never be reminded enough of the simplicity and peace of having a grateful heart. Stay present. He is here.
