Double Blessing.
John 3:27. John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven.”
This was John’s response to his followers who were worried because Jesus was baptizing more people than John was. Numbers were not the point for John – and when it comes to baptism and being filled with the Holy Spirit, John states very plainly: that miracle comes from God – no matter what instrument or who He uses on this earth for the ceremony, the real gift is only and always from God and God alone.
As a teacher, parent, friend, daughter, wife, etc… I love sharing the Greatest News I have ever learned with those I love. Here, however, I must admit, sometimes I just don’t understand why everyone isn’t excited about Jesus, and this verse keeps my heart on Him.
When I rest in knowing that God is Good, Sovereign, and His Spirit is His gift to impart in His perfect timing – I can let go of worrying about where everyone else is at in regards to their relationship with God and simply enjoy the gift of Him. Then, the double-blessing… Not only do I get the privilege of being His, this is also the only way He can use me, if He wills, to reach those I love so dearly. Praise God!
John 3:30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
Lord, let it be so. I love You. Amen.
