The Miracle of Life.
John 3:9-10 “How are these things possible?” Nicodemus asked.
Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things?”
Nicodemus is a ‘respected Jewish teacher’, meaning he has and does study God’s miracles throughout all of the Old Testament aka the Hebrew Bible. This being said, Nicodemus believed Jesus was from God. John 3:2 Nicodemus said, “We all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”
Nicodemus didn’t need more convincing that Jesus was from God – but even after years of studying the Old Testament miracles, he still needed convincing of what God could do. He doubted the miracle that Jesus still performs today in millions of hearts… Nicodemus doubted the miracle of being made new through the Holy Spirit. John 3:6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.”… John 3:8 The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.
New life is a miracle… and a gift. When He says He can make us new, He means it… and the reward, Life… Him – for there is no life outside of Him.
