Die to Self, Live to God. A Meditation by Cora C.
I just want to preface this mediation: this was not an assignment, nor did I ask Cora to write this. She wrote it simply because she felt God put it on her heart. I am so grateful for this Sister in Christ and for the faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.
Dying to self is a big question for me, and probably for many other people around the world. How and where do you start? I have somewhat of an idea, but I am still praying to God, reading the Bible, and soaking up all the Godly things in school, trying to figure out how on earth do I “ Die to Self and Live to God”.
I suppose you stop worrying about yourself, or like what we talked about in school today . What would you die for and what would be utterly astounding to die for? I chose God and the freedom of our country . On the other hand I said it was stupid to die for a fancy car , house, and getting our way . A lot of other students chose God, Jesus, normal things I would expect coming from them. Dying for God to give up self. Dying so you could live the rest of your wonderful life living and breathing our one and only Heavenly Father , God! Now that sounds like the best! To me it sounds like running around with Jesus and God all day having long conversations and learning how to be wise, soaking in all of their goodness, but that is just my imagination. I am sure people have more complex ideas or maybe you have a simpler idea of laying in a field of flowers with them, just soaking up the sunshine and breathing in the wonderful creation. Hearing all of that now I would think everyone would want to die, no not die, LIVE for God! Just a little insight into my mind, the second idea of being with God came fr om my teacher , Anna, she has a free kind of way she sees God, i think anyways. No this is not for extra cr edit, I just got some idea from God, obviously , and can’ t stop writing!
I think that day you die to self would be second to none. It would be the most significant day in your whole entire life on earth. The day would not be sad, because you are giving up your sinful, old, rotten self and becoming the best child that you could ever be for God, who has been waiting for you before time. He has saved a room for you, so that you may have peace in him. John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have tr ouble. But take heart! I have over come the world.” You will get to serve him abundantly and die to live knowing you have a heavenly Father that will take care, and love you no matter what.
1 Corinthians 2:14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. In school a few days ago we were reading Mark 9-1 1 about John, the crazy guy that wears camel furs and eats locusts, who was baptizing Jesus, God’s Son he sent down to earth. When Jesus got out of the water the literal sky split open and the Holy Spirit came down on Jesus looking like a dove. Then God begins to tell him “You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life.” Jesus has the Holy Spirit and will accept the Spirit of God and does not consider them foolish, because he understands them. A person that dies for God and receives the Holy Spirit to live for God, understands and does not question.
They have faith in, once again they died to live knowing they have a heavenly Father that will take care, and love them no matter what. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
2 Corinthian 5-7 I will walk by faith even when I cannot see. There have been a few days where we have been learning about Saul in school. He was a horrible man that hunted people that loved and devoted themselves to God. Saul was wild; he went from house to house dragging people to jail and killing them just because they belonged to the Way. Then one day Saul was on his way to arrest more people in Damascus. On his way Jesus blinded him for three days. Saul went to Damascus to be healed by Ananias, a disciple. Ananias healed him and Saul got baptized. Saul went to work preaching about God. Saul died to self and lived to God. He changed all of his wicked ways to live for God. I think anyone with any background could die to self if Saul could and immediately start going around preaching about God.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good. When you die you would see the world differently and see what maybe you thought was good was always a man made, human thing. Your mind would transform and live for God. Normal activities that helped yourself would now have some way of honoring God and if not, you would give it up since you died to live for God. You would find pleasure in honoring God and loving nothing but God. 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. Right now as I write this I have found another thing to not die for and it is everything, but God and Jesus and just to make sure you know , never die for the devil and sin. Never die for this sinful, humanistic, devilish world either . Live and die for God every time.
