Living in Reverse.
I came across the most beautiful truth a couple days ago – that Augustine died with no possessions.
“One day, before he came a Christian, Augustine passed by a laughing beggar. He was amazed by the beggar’s happiness. ‘He has what I cannot attain to,’ Augustine thought. He later learned that joy does not come from earthly pleasure. Augustine reportedly died owning no personal possessions.” – Heroes of the Faith
”Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe.” – Augustine
Instead of spending his life accumulating, he spent his life using his gifts to glorify God. He lived in reverse! He could see, even on this earth, the Glory of God.
Wouldn’t that be something, to change the question we ask every child and young adult, “What are you going to be/do when you grow up?” Instead we ask, “How can you glorify God with the gifts you already have… today?”
This one question changes everything.
Instead of spending our life toiling for what will never satisfy, we spend our lives using exactly what has been given to us (at every age) to glorify our Father. Trusting fully Our Lord’s ability to supply our needs. What freedom! What beauty! What adventure! I can’t help but believe that is life and life to the fullest.
Lord, make it so. Strengthen our faith to walk fully with you, letting the things of this world slip through our fingers while we hold tightly to You, glorifying You. Amen.
John 10:10 The theif’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. (Or life and life to the full)
