Mephibosheth’s Reply.
“Give him all of it. I am content just to have you safely back again, my lord the King.” – 2 Samuel 19:30
Can I get an Amen! Not yet perhaps 🙂
King David just offered the cripple, Mephibosheth, worldly security and comfort. Mephibosheth, who was once capable of providing food for a portion of Davids army, had fallen victim to the deceit of his servant, Ziba. Ziba had lied to David about Mephibosheth not coming to greet the King so David gave Ziba all Meshibosheths land. When King David found out the truth, he told Mephibosheth that Ziba now had to divide their land between the two… but Mephibosheth replies : “Give him all of it. I am content just to have you safely back again, my lord the King.”
Some might say Ziba won – he got the land right? He lied and he won. Where is the justice in that!? But, I say Mephibosheth won. He was able to see the only thing that mattered, a loving King after God’s own heart. He needed nothing else.
I would like to use this story as an example of choosing what is best over what is good. There is nothing in this world that is more beautiful than contentment in Our King, Jesus. To need nothing else. To want nothing else. The God that promises to provide for us and love us has won the battle over evil.
It may seem in this broken world that evil wins and deceit works… but works for what? There is only one that will truly complete us. By design, we are complete in God. Once we can see this, we are free… we no longer need land, comforts, stuff – we only need Him. To me this is winning.
I am blessed with many comforts, but my greatest treasure is Him and He cannot be taken from me.
How about an Amen!?!? 🙂
Here are a few pics from our latest adventure to Horse Thief Lake. Less is more… and, I know, we still have so much. (FYI – The crushed gravel path is the Mickelson Trail 🙂
